Just a very quick post that I thought could become a weekly thing - My Top Tens each Thursday! This could mean a whole range of different Top Tens; Books, movies, music genres, favourite songs, colours, animals, etc!
So here's my list of my Top Ten Favourite Songs Right Now!
No, this is not the Let It Go from Disney's Frozen, but a beautiful Brunette named James Bay who was introduced to me by my best friend, Savannah. It's one of the very few songs that I can say that I could fall asleep to because of the creaminess of the music, the gentle cooing of his voice, and just the whole song in general. Here's my favourite lyric from the song that just makes me want to curl up in my blanket and fall asleep to the gentle song of PAIN AND ANGST.
I used to recognize myself
It's funny how reflections change
When we're becoming something else
I think it's time to walk away
So come on let it go
Just let it be
Why don't you be you
And I'll be me
I don't even know how I found out about Orla Gartland - I was probably just searching Related Artists on Spotify - but the funky sound to this song just makes me want to bop around the house. It's also known that I'm really into the Funk genre right now, so that might explain the reason this song has been repeated over and over until my mum has complained about it. Here's my favourite lyric, and yes it is the chorus but okay I get it it's still fantastic.
Days and nights
in the best of times
We keep our memories
When we were kids
did you think that it
would all come back to this?
Ugh. I still remember the moment I heard this song. It was in my Auntie's car, as she had just bought me the entire album because we wanted to listen to Blank Space and Shake It Off. After getting through Welcome To New York, this head bopping song that you'd imagine on a car ride while you're looking dramatically out the window and your hair is blowing all Pocahontas like in the breeze while your beauty of a Bae is driving with his gorgeousness. I listen to this song WAY more than is socially acceptable, and that's fine by me because it's Taylor Swift and you can't hate on her. At all. Ever.
You got that James Dean day dream look in your eye
And I got that red lip classic thing that you like
And when we go crashing down, we come back every time.
Cause we never go out of style
We never go out of style
This song has wrecked me. Full wrecked. This song is on my jogging playlist, my doing the dishes playlist, my writing my zombie novel playlist, every playlist I have on Spotify. This song gets me so pumped to do anything that I just want to back flip off the wall, parkour off my roof, cannon ball onto my bed and interpretively dance as I fling myself out onto a dark alley way wearing a hoodie and running for my life. IT JUST GETS ME SO PUMPED TO RUN (When in actual reality just 2 minutes of running and I am done. Who even does that for fun?
Tomorrow is another day
And you won’t have to hide away
You’ll be a man, boy!
But for now it’s time to run, it’s time to run!
I heard this song for the first time when I saw the video clip of it. Actual Cannibal Shia LaBeouf? [> Link for those who don't get that reference. Best video of your life right here<] Heck yeah I'm going to watch him dance and pound his hair-filled chest and rock that muscle on muscle. It got a lot of comments and uproar about it, but it's a fantastic song.
Well, I've got thick skin and an elastic heart,
But your blade—it might be too sharp
I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard,
I may snap and I move fast
But you won't see me fall apart
'Cause I've got an elastic heart
Again, I randomly stumbled across Lauren Aquilina when I was looking for new artists like Orla Gartland. This song honestly felt like such a punch in the gut that, on first listening, made me cry actually! Or...teary-eyed. Its lyrics are so well written and the way Lauren's voice recognises the emotion in the song makes me fall in love with this song over and over each time I listen to it.
The anticipation before the kiss
Mirrored in my shaking lips
Oh god I feel so unprepared
The two of us so out of place
My feelings written on my face
Got what I want but now I'm scared
UGH SLEEPING AT LAST. THIS WHOLE BAND AND EVERY SONG OF THEIRS JUST UGGGGH. So beautiful and gentle but powerful at the same time and makes each song seem like a love song written just for you. Even Safety Dance *Cries gently to self* Please future husband, sing this to me so that I can tick this off my bucket-list!
Though I've tried before to tell her
Of the feelings I have for her in my heart
Every time that I come near her
I just lose my nerve
As I've done from the start
This is one of the few songs that can actually make me sit in a room, silently, and just thinking about life and myself and my thoughts and feelings and other people. His voice reminds me of a cosy cabin with a warm fire crackling in the fireplace where I just want to stay and feel safe. The lyrics are also so profound I feel like my heart is going to explode each time I reach them and my heart beats faster just at their mention. It's such a beautifully sad song, but it gives hopes in the end.
Hello, my old heart,
It's been so long.
Since I've given you away.
Every day I add another stone
To the walls I've built around you
To keep you safe.
Okay, let me start this by saying that I'm not actually a fan of One Direction in any way. I don't like their music, I don't like the band, I just don't like them - But this song caught me by surprise and I'm really shocked. It's one of those Guilty Pleasure songs that you secretly hate yourself for liking or getting it caught in your head. It's painful, but good at the same time! And yes, this is the only song that I have listened to by One Direction that didn't make me want to douse myself in The 1975 or The Wombats or Twenty One Pilots.
BUT DARN THIS SONG IS CATCHY.
Oh, baby, look what you’ve done to me
Oh, baby, look what you’ve done now
Oh, baby, I’ll never leave if you keep holding me this way, oh o-oh
(Considering that BASICALLY those are the only lyrics, repeated x1000)
Okay, if you can get past the super weird and uncomfortable beginning of the video clip, and the one swear in the song, you'll be led to this wonderful band that has such thick British accent in it it's perfection.
The entire 1975 self-titled album I have gone through a thousand times now, just repeating the songs and now I even know the lyrics which is way better than trying to figure out what the lead singer, Matt, is singing <3
It's just you and I tonight
Why don't you figure my heart out?
It's just you and I tonight
Why don't you figure my heart out?
